Privacy Policy

Last updated 29 July 2026

This policy explains how Viewps handles personal data when you use the Viewps iOS app, take part in its TestFlight beta, visit viewps.com, or join the waitlist.

At a glance

Who is responsible

Viewps AS (organisation number 938 077 460), Schønings gate 9B, 0362 Oslo, Norway, is the data controller. For privacy questions or requests, email hello@viewps.com.

This policy describes how we handle personal data. What Viewps does, what it does not do, and who is responsible for what outdoors are covered by our Terms of Service, of which this policy forms part.

Personal data we process

Account and profile

This includes your name, email address, authentication identifier, profile image, and beta invite or access record. If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple may provide your name and either your email address or an Apple private relay address.

Conversations and planning content

This includes messages, structured actions, plans, preferences, remembered facts, feedback, and information you choose to provide about hiking companions. Viewps also creates recommendations, summaries, and other records derived from this content so it can provide and continue the service. Keep information about companions minimal, make sure you are permitted to share it, and do not provide sensitive information about another person.

Location and activity

If you use location features, we may process a departure or destination, precise coordinates and accuracy, nearby place information, and whether you are within the current service area. We retain the submitted location and result of an access or waitlist check with your account. During user-started navigation, location is used to show your position and support route guidance. A track is uploaded only if you choose to save it.

Media and device features

If you choose to add them, we store photos, videos, voice notes, text notes, or location notes with an experience. We store an Apple push token if you enable remote notifications. Camera and microphone access is used only when you initiate capture. Calendar access is used on-device to create or update Viewps events; Viewps does not upload the contents of your calendar.

Technical, safety, and diagnostic data

We process app version, request identifiers, network and server logs, error reports, feedback metadata, security events, and diagnostic or audit records about requests and generated responses. Hosting and authentication providers may also process IP addresses and similar connection data as part of operating their services.

Website and waitlists

If you join the website waitlist, we process your email address and subscription status. If you join the in-app service-area waitlist, we also process your account email, notification choice, submitted coordinates, and associated city and country. The website does not set its own analytics or advertising cookies. Cloudflare may process IP addresses and connection logs to deliver and secure the site.

Most data comes directly from you or your device. Account details may come from Apple when you choose Sign in with Apple, and plans, recommendations, remembered preferences, and diagnostics are generated by Viewps from your use of the service. An email or Apple authentication identifier and enough planning input to answer a request are required to provide the app; your name, device permissions, media, notifications, and waitlist signup are optional, though the related feature or service-area verification may not be available without them.

Why we use personal data

AI processing and human review

Viewps sends relevant conversation and planning context to OpenAI through its business API to generate replies and recommendations. This context may include messages, preferences, locations, and plan details. Under OpenAI’s API data terms, API inputs and outputs are not used to train its models by default; abuse-monitoring logs may be retained for up to 30 days, subject to legal and safety exceptions.

Access to app content is limited to authorised personnel and is used only when reasonably necessary for support, security, safety review, or service improvement. Viewps uses AI to make suggestions; it does not make solely automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.

Service providers and sharing

We share personal data only as needed to operate the service, comply with law, or protect users and the service. We do not sell it. Depending on the feature you use, recipients include:

Mapbox uses its telemetry under its own privacy policy to improve its maps. You can opt out through the Mapbox attribution control shown on interactive maps. We use providers only where their terms require protection of personal data consistent with this policy and applicable law. Where a provider acts independently, its own privacy policy also applies.

Transfers outside the EEA

Some providers may process data outside Norway or the European Economic Area. Where required, we rely on safeguards such as an adequacy decision, including the EU–US Data Privacy Framework where applicable, or the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses. Contact us for more information about the safeguard relevant to a particular provider.

Retention and deletion

You can delete your account under Me → Settings → Delete account, or request deletion by email. This removes your account and associated data from active Viewps systems. Limited copies may remain temporarily in processor backups or security logs until their normal deletion cycle, or longer where retention is required by law or needed to address misuse or legal claims.

Your choices and rights

You can change iOS permissions in Settings, disable notifications, opt out of Mapbox telemetry from its map attribution control, correct or tell Viewps to forget remembered preferences, and unsubscribe from waitlist emails using the link in each email. A forgotten preference is retired from future use; deleting the account removes the underlying record. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing already carried out lawfully.

Subject to the GDPR’s conditions, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or portability of your personal data, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. Send requests to hello@viewps.com. You may also complain to Datatilsynet in Norway or your local data-protection authority.

Children

Viewps is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.

Security

We use technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal data, including access controls, encrypted connections, and private storage for user uploads. No service can guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page and its “Last updated” date when our data practices change. If a change materially affects how we use personal data, we will provide additional notice where appropriate.
